How words are selected
Fivefold uses two word collections: a compact solution bank of familiar five-letter words and a larger validation bank for legitimate guesses. Separating the two prevents obscure accepted words from dominating the daily answers.
The daily schedule
Each local calendar date maps deterministically to one position in the solution bank. Players using the same calendar date receive the same answer. A visitor in another time zone may roll over earlier or later because the change occurs at local midnight rather than at one global instant.
Why the answer changes reliably
Date calculations use calendar components converted through UTC arithmetic. This avoids daylight-saving transitions accidentally shortening or lengthening the day count. An open tab schedules a refresh for the next local midnight and also checks the date when the tab becomes visible again.
Unlimited selection
Unlimited Fivefold chooses a fresh solution using the browser’s cryptographic random-number generator. The selected puzzle and progress are saved locally until the game is completed or replaced with another random word.
Editorial approach
The aim is familiarity rather than trickery. The accepted-guess bank remains broad so players can test legitimate words, but daily answers come from the smaller solution collection. Future revisions may remove answers that are excessively regional, archaic, ambiguous, or inappropriate for a general audience.
